March Student of the Month Announcement

Hey all,

I’d like to announce 12th grader Stephen of The Meadows School in Las Vegas as my March Student of the Month. Stephen has not only performed exceptionally well as a student, but has shown maturity and leadership beyond his years. It’s very encouraging to me to hear about a young man taking on great responsibilities and being a person that can be relied on and looked up to by those around him. It speaks volumes for the great contributions he’ll make to this world in the coming stages of his life. Please read the entry below that Stephen’s teacher, Sherry, sent in for more about Stephen’s great character.

Stephen has been my student for three 1/2 years; his zest for knowledge, impeccable character, and an leadership (far beyond his years) have made him one of the most remarkable students whom I have had the privilege to teach.

Stephen has a nearly perfect GPA but what really distinguishes him is his maturity and leadership. He’s an eagle scout who mentors new scouts and helps others with their eagle projects. He is also a senior leader on our state champion football team. But mostly, Stephen has excelled as State President of the Nevada Junior Classical League. His enthusiasm for all events like certamen (quiz-bowl with Latin/Classical Studies questions), projects like the JDRF walk and making crib cards for our local neo-natal intensive care unit, and his representation of Nevada at the three National Conventions helped establish our club. Younger students see him as a mentor, so his enthusiasm speaks volumes. Even though our JCL chapter is Nevada’s largest, Stephen has been a gracious leader for smaller programs. He has taken an active interest in helping these programs gain members and enthusiasm. For three years Stephen helped me host the state convention. His organization is a huge part of his success, but is only matched by his enthusiasm for JCL and by an eagerness to share his experiences with others. Stephen is an exceptional leader and a great ambassador for Latin.

I believe Stephen is worthy of your consideration. He is as dependable, adept, and talented a student as any teacher could imagine. I have nothing but the deepest respect for Stephen; everyday, I am proud to call myself his teacher. And I have confidence that he will strive to represent himself with honor and integrity. There is no other student for whom I can pledge such unequivocal support.

I have sent Stephen the gift basket pictured to the right as a token of my appreciation for his standout behavior.

Thanks to Sherry for sending her entry in and bringing Stephen to my attention, and to all the teachers that sent in nominations. Looking forward to reading more great submissions for next month. Be on the lookout early April for an announcement kicking off nomination submissions for that month.

God bless,
Troy

I cannot think of a student more deserving than Stephen!! He is a leader in and out of the classroom and always treats everyone with respect. He is one of the most polite, respectful, mature, and hard-working students I have ever met. Coming from a fellow classmate and teammate, I have had the pleasure of going to school with “Gibby” for the last 10 years. He is always supportive and always is willing to help any one of his classmates. He is dependable and devoted and I wish him the best of luck next year! Best of all, Stephen is a die-hard Steelers fan!!

I cannot agree with Goose more. I have never gotten the opportunity to share a class with Gibby, but in both the hallways and on the field Stephen is one of the most respectful and dedicated students in our entire school (tied for first right next to the guy above me). As the running back who has followed this guy to the “promise land”, I can assure you that Gibby is a extremely reliable and supportive person. He would always be the first guy to congratulate you in the end zone, while also being the first to jump on anyone who wasn’t focused during practice. One of the key qualities of Gibby, however, is that he’s just as reliable and responsible on the field as he is off of it. He’s helped with numerous JCL projects and strives to be as helpful as possible every single day. I could not be more proud of Gibby and I hope he continues to put his rare talents to good use.
