PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburghers aren’t the only ones impressed by Troy Polamalu and his notorious curls. A wax figure of the Steelers player is one of Madame Tussaud’s newest sculptures in New York, and is now making several local stops around Pittsburgh in the next few days.
Polamalu was in New York to surprise visitors at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.
“I never envisioned getting a wax figure made of myself. I never envisioned getting my hair insured. These are the type of things that happened in my life where I really pinch myself, and think, wow,” says Polamalu.
The sculpture recently made an appearance at the Giant Eagle in Glenshaw, where customers turned out to take pictures. The sculpture is making a Picture Perfect tour, sponsored by Head and Shoulders Shampoo.
“They donate a dollar for every picture we take and upload to Facebook. They’re donating a dollar to NFL Play 60,” says tour manager Adam Ahern. “It’s all about the NFL initiative to play 60 minutes a day in order to get kids active and vital.”
This is the most hair ever used on any Madame Tussauds wax figure.
They special ordered extra-long human hair and permed it to replicate the player’s famous curls. Polamalu himself was on hand to eyeball the results.
“It’s going to make a great candle one day for somebody,” Polamalu jokes.

My younger brother saw this on your website and I wanted to reveal who the guy standing next to your statue is in this photo. My name is Nathan Gregg and I am a huge Steelers and Polamalu Fan. When I first learned of the wax stature being created for Troy was announced I really wanted to see it in person. And then I saw YouTube video of the the actual Polamalu posing as the statue and scaring everyone, i thought to myself how cool would that have been to meet the real him. I hope I do get the opportunity to meet Troy sometime in the future. Troy is the only Steeler Player I would really want to meet. It would be awesome to win some kind of prize like, “Spend an Afternoon with Troy at Heinz Field .” And I would be able to invite some of my buddies and brothers. That would be that absolute dream to be able to play a short pick-up game off football with Troy Polamalu one day.
Thank you Troy for being such an incredible individual on and off the Field. My brother and I truly look forward to each game that you play and waiting for the that special moment where you make a huge play in defense. It’s a blessing to watch you play with a favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
