Troy Arrives in American Samoa

(Via Radio New Zealand International.)

NFL star Troy Polamalu has arrived in American Samoa, where his foundation will run a series of football camps for young kids.

Governor Togiola Tulafono extended a hearty welcome to the Pittsburgh Steelers safety and his entourage before Polamalu thanked the crowd for his welcome.

“I’m just a small part of the equation of what’s come here. I’ve brought quite a few other football players and a lot of other staff members that are really going to be doing a lot of good work. We all really just look forward to being with the children. We came here obviously to explore Samoan culture but most importantly to show the kids what we’ve learnt and what we were ambassadors of, playing this wonderful sport of football.”

Tory Polamalu says his team is excited for the week ahead.

    Troy,

Most of us grew up watching our Football heroes on TV, but what you have done is make a wish for some of this kids a reality. Even though I leave in Canada with my wife and kids, my heart still belongs to my islands of Samoa. You have inspired so many athletes to be the best they can be on and off the field. We as Samoans and NFL Fans alike are proud of you and your accomplishments. Troy, thank you for visiting our people and teaching our young children about life and football. I hope and pray that you and your family plus your entourage will have a memorable visit. If you are planning a visit up in Canada, Vancouver side, we would love to visit with you. God Bless you and your family.

I saw your arrival on KVZK and cheered right along with all our people that crowded the Tafuna International Airport. I heard about your visit to Star Kist and to the market on the radio this morning and smiled. I saw your photos in the Samoa News. I heard about Day 1 of the football camp from my young 9 year old nephews who are waterboys for the Tafuna Warrior football team and couldn’t help but share in their excitement. I also heard from my brothers who coach Warrior football and all I can say is THANK YOU! Thank you so much for your generosity to our local youth, even our little island of American Samoa. We so appreciate you, your NFL colleagues, the college coaches, your families and the rest of your entourage! What an awesome event this is! I hope American Samoa overwhelmed you all with love, support and gratitude! Be well!

    troy,

i have truly followed you from your rookie season when no one knew your name except family members, friends, USC fans. I was never a college football fan at the time but once you entered that field your rookie year i knew one day you were going to be a household name…..i am truly admired by the way you handle situations on the field and also your view on religion. When i observed you as a player you changed the way i watch sports and my life due to christian faith. I am not only a fan of your work but also a fan of your wise choice of words when talking about religion. I am a strong christian who loves to see a player speak and act humbly on the field and on live television when the sport you play is so dangerous and monsterous every game. Every christian should act the same way. You made me drop alcohol, smoking, and partying because the way you are right now made me want to do the same, my parents seen it in me and i also know temptations can drag u down by the wrong crowd…I was standing by at the tents waiting for an autograph with you and the poly teammates but you looked sooo exhausted and i knew off the bat you needed space, I would be an honor if u could sign my bible along with the other teammates to signify that you guys led me to live the life that the bible tells us to.

    Troy,
You have made Samoa very known with your actions in football. You made your Polamalu family proud, and also the people of your hometown. You’ve made one big mark for your own people and you’ve played a great role in the game for the future generations of American Samoa. I am your biggest fan. I’m just glad to see you come home and distribute your experience to your fellow Samoans. If only you’d came in Manu’a, it would be a legacy for the people of Manu’a. Good Luck to the upcoming season.

Talofa lava Mr & Mrs Polamalu, first and foremost, would like to say how much I admire your humble attitude, and your good deeds, giving back to our island community. I followed your football career when you played for the Trojans. I attended every home game at the coliseum with my son, now stationed in Afganistan with friends from Mission Viejo. I watched a few games in Pittsburg at the Heinz field with my wife when I visited her in Pittsburg, PA. She was a manager at the Application Support Center for United States Citizenship and Immigration Services on Liberty Street in Pittsburg, PA. I have read a few articles about you, and I’m not surprised that you are an unselfish individual, and are a good role model for our young people setting a good moral foundation for each and everyone that comes in contact with you. It’s inspirational and encouraging, and you always make us Samoan’s proud of you. May the good Lord protect and bless your family in abundance, and may you continue your good work for our Veterans…..USMC
