Thank you so much Troy and Alex!

The person that you are meeting today is so much more than a Steelers fanatic. Although, even if she were “only” a Steelers fan, she would be a gold medalist.

At first glance you will notice that she wears her heart on her sleeve. Don’t let the hypocycloids fool you though! Cardiologists haven’t studied it yet but if they did, I think they would find more than the Steelmark logo. Once you look past the huge swell of pride, skim over the bruises that seem to resemble stars, birds, and maybe some orange paint, poke past the scar tissue… (look really close and you see the healed tiny cracks have dates on them ranging from the 70′s to the present.) Upon closer inspection though, the most remarkable thing about the heart that beats inside the girl who used to tell all the kids in grade school that Terry Bradshaw was her daddy… is the amazing size of it and it’s ability to heal, grow, and love. I don’t even need to see an X-ray. I’m sure her heart is twice the normal size and bursting at the seams! After meeting her, you might think that her condition is all iron curtain related. Close! But she is so much more.

Pam’s passion for the Steelers carries into every part of her life, and not only in the “We have 6 Superbowl rings, woot-woot!” kind-of way. As a young girl her Christmas list was always Steelers related. Her clock and cleats… Other little girls want heels… that girl wore out her black and gold cleats! I wont get to detailed, but we didn’t have the easiest of childhoods. It wasn’t always easy to cope. I usually found unhealthy ways of getting by. Not Pam though… she had Franco, Terry, Bart, Jerome, Chuck… I could go on, and on… (but I have to stop!! This is a love letter about my sister, but I AM a Dallas fan and, frankly, I’m still not quite over that whole 70′s thing!)

Pam was amazing at school sports from gym class to varsity. She always played hard and gave 100%. She has always been so much fun around a sporting event, I am so jealous that you all get to see her experience her first game. It seriously is a life long dream come true. Back in the 70′s as a very little girl she could sometimes come off as a bit of a freak. She knew the plays, the routes, and the stats. She would even be able to call the plays ahead of the officials… (lol, I know, TOO MANY JOKES, we’ll just leave the ref’s alone… for now :O)

I’ve always been in awe of her abilities when it comes to sports. Rather it be on the field, sliding into bases with a ruptured appendix while trying out for the Silver Bullets, getting tackled at 10 years old by the neihborhood boys (men!), or standing sideline encouraging future sports stars. She has always given her all. And not only in sports. She spends most summers working with children. Keeping their brains and bodies active. What does she do the rest of the year you ask? She works with kids then too. She works in a class room that provides extra structure for children with behavior issues… and she’s GREAT AT IT! Being avid football fans we are used to trash talk, but when it is directed at you and the source is a really frustrated 8 year old with a foul mouth and a bad attitude… it takes someone special. And well, that’s Pam.

I want to personally thank you on behalf of my entire family. My sisters and I are all football fans because of Pam and football has brought so many great memories. This will, by far be the best of them all! (Although, the last Cowboys-Steelers bowl still makes me smile to this day!)

I can’t think of anyone that deserves this amazing day more than Pam. Thank you for providing her the opportunity, thank you for providing us the gift of knowing that someone who really deserves it got to realize her biggest dream. Sometimes nice guys (girls!) do finish first!

    My sincerest and eternal thanks!

    Becki Walker

Sister of the world’s greatest Steelers fan!
