I’d like to honor an outstanding student this month from high school. If you are a teacher you are eligible to nominate a student, but the student must be from one of your classes. Submit a nomination by listing your name, school, class, name of your student and no more than 300 words as to why your student should be November’s student of the month. Please place both the nominee’s name and the current month in the subject line of your email (formatted as “November Student of the Month: [nominee name]“) and send it to studentofmonth@troy43.com within the first seven days of this month. The nominees will be screened for me so I won’t even see your submission if you don’t follow these instructions. I’ve got something nice to award the winner and we’ll post the winning submission here on Troy43.com.

I would like to nominate Stefenie Griggs a junior at Roseburg High School in Roseburg Oregon. Stefenie is a 4.00 student taking college prep classes while being a three sport athlete. Stef had a bittersweet week last week, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and she was selected first team all conference in volleyball. She is not the most gifted athlete but she attacks her athletic with the same intensity as she does her academics. She is planning on majoring in premed with the hopes of becoming a family physician. Thank you for considering Stefenie Griggs.

I am not a teacher, however I think Courtney smallwood student at wilson college would be a great canidate. She is a single mother 22years old with a 5 year old son. I see her walk to school everyday whether rain or snow. She holds down the house. And she is always smiling. She’s always attentive in the classroom and if not in class she’s at the library. She’s had a lot of obstacles that she continually overcomes and she is an inspiration to me and others. *also check out the woman with children program (at wilson college)designed for single mothers trying to get a degree.. Holla! And god bless!

Hello,
Please open this up so that counselors are able to nominate students also. I have several students that I would love to nominate for student of the month!!

It is only fitting that we were studying Ralph Waldo Emerson and the Transcendentalists this month in my A.P. U.S. History
course this month as Neil is the perfect model for the Emerson quote “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”
I first worked with Neil this past summer in our school’s Tech Camp for incoming freshman. I was most impressed with
his aptitude and his attitude towards working with the students (and the teacher). Sine then he has enrolled in my History
class, and become a member of the Mock Trial Team of which I am one of the moderators. His enthusiasm is not only readily
apparent but it is also very communicable! Whether it is in the very first period of the day to discuss/debate historical issues
and events in my A.P. U.S. History class, or at a Mock Trial meeting long after school is dismissed to discuss the
facts and issues presented in the Mock Trial homicide case, People v. Buschell, Neil Barot not only displays great aptitude
but even more importantly the attitude that would make Emerson proud. In addition to these activities that I am involved with,
Neil is also in charge of sound for the school production, Much Ado About Nothing, which opens the first weekend in
December!
