The Jets ended a two-game losing streak, managing to pull off an upset victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were short-handed with both Troy and Heath Miller out of the lineup.
On the road at Heinz Field, no less.
Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez rushed for a touchdown, the offense’s first in a dozen quarters, during a 22-17 win over the Steelers.
“We wanted to get to 10 wins, that was our goal, and I’m really proud of the guys for rallying,” Sanchez said.
Even though the Steelers lost the game, they clinched a playoff berth due to strength of victory tiebreakers.
Despite losing, the Steelers (10-4) were told by the NFL nearly an hour after the game ended that they secured a playoff spot via a series of complicated strength-of-schedule tiebreakers.
The Steelers can close out the AFC North over the Baltimore Ravens by beating the Carolina Panthers and the Cleveland Browns. If the Steelers lose to the Browns and the Ravens beat the Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals, then Baltimore would win the division.
“We’ve just got to win two more games, very winnable games, teams we match up well against,” safety Ryan Clark said. “We still can win this division.”
